Blue Collaborative's first film program, ShortCuts, helps playwrights break into the film industry.
From assembling teams through distribution, playwrights will receive the funding, equipment, and industry partnerships necessary to fully realize their first professional quality short film.
How It Works

SUBMIT/SELECT
SCREENPLAYS
Playwrights submit their short screenplays through our national online application.
Blue will choose 5 to produce.

PAIR WRITERS
+ DIRECTORS

Playwrights are introduced to 5 seasoned film directors chosen by Blue.
After they have discussed potential collaborations, pairings will be set.

PRODUCE
FILMS
Blue assembles a crew and assigns a budget of $5,000 - 10,000 for each film.

Our producing team will guide each project smoothly from pre-production through post.

DISTRIBUTE
FILMS
Blue will submit each short to film festivals and online platforms to gain the most exposure possible.
A screening will also be hosted in New York City for donors, crews, and invited industry contacts.

Shortcuts wants to engage with writers who have a strong personal point of view and understand how their stories might contribute to a larger discourse.

Who Can Apply?
Any playwright who has not been professionally produced for film or television may apply.
Strong consideration is given to playwrights who have completed or are currently enrolled in university or professional writing programs.
